Silverstone began life as an airfield. It’s windy and isolated but has played an important part in helping build Britain’s reputation in GP racing since 1948. In addition to the British GP, and a complete Grand Prix racing industry has been built up nearby with F1 teams Jordan, BAR and Jaguar based close by.
